Nikki and Maurice always knew they wanted a barn wedding but having visited many that were dark and small, they hoped they would find something more contemporary for their wedding. Luckily, they found the perfect setting at Rivervale Barn.
From the moment the pair walked into Rivervale Barn, they knew it was the one. It offered an atmosphere and vibe like no other wedding barn they’d visited and the pair loved the fact the Ceremony Barn was flooded with natural light. The layout of the barns was also a big hit, with a separate space for the ceremony and reception, and the stunning grounds – full of colour.
With Rivervale being a more contemporary style venue, the pair opted for a modern yet romantic style. They loved the natural look of the place so didn’t feel they needed to go overboard with the decorations. The pair personalised the venue with travel-themed table names, after their love of travel, and handcrafted stationery.
The blush pink and navy colour scheme was reflected in the bouquets and the wedding cake, while pink sashes adorned the chairs and soft pink and ivory petals decorated the tables.
Nikki’s wedding gown was the perfect fit for her romantic day. Her Morilee multi-layered ball gown featured plenty of tulle, jewelled keyhole straps and a crystal belt.
“I must have tried on 30 different dresses in five shops and still not found the one. When I tried on the Morilee gown for the second time, our first dance song started playing in the store. That was it. I just had to have the dress.”
Nikki and Maurice tied the knot at Rivervale Barn before going on to enjoy the celebration of a lifetime.
“There were so many moments that I loved. When my dad first saw me in my dress and entering the Ceremony Barn and seeing all my friends, family and Maurice at the top of the aisle will stay with me forever.
Celebratory drinks and canapés were enjoyed in the Courtyard and included White Peach Sangria, Pimm’s and curried lamb with mint yoghurt skewers. A close-up magician was also on-hand with his spellbinding tricks, entertaining guests as they mingled in the sun.
The wedding breakfast followed – which was perhaps one of the most important features of the day for Nikki and Maurice as food plays a huge part in the couple’s life. They treated their guests to a wonderful menu that included a succulent lamb main course and a trio of decadent desserts.
“We wanted to give our guests plenty to eat and amazing quality. With the overwhelmingly positive comments about the food on and after the day, I think we succeeded! The expert on-site catering team were amazing at creating personalised menus for those guests with dietary requirements too.”
Despite having a live musician and DJ play during their evening reception, it was Nikki and Maurice who were the stars of the show with their first dance.
“We’d been having dance lessons for a year and decided that we would get our first dance choreographed by our teacher. We hadn’t told anyone and it was a truly magical moment. It felt like just the two of us were in the room.”
“Spread out the planning. I had 15 months to plan our wedding and doing one major thing each month really helped me to feel organised and stay relaxed.”
