A Seasonal Autumn Wedding

For their autumn wedding, Lisa and Chris knew that they wanted a fabulous venue with beautiful grounds plus fantastic food for their guests to enjoy. They found just what they wanted at Rivervale Barn and they made sure their day was full of seasonal touches from start to finish!

The perfect venue for an autumn wedding

Lisa and Chris visited Rivervale Barn on a glorious sunny day and fell instantly in love with the venue:

“As soon as we walked in, we just felt that the venue flowed so well and we were made to feel so welcome by the Events Team who were so reassuring. When we walked around the gardens, we came across a Japanese bridge – it felt like a sign that this was our wedding venue as we’d just returned from a memorable trip to Japan and loved the idea of photos being taken of us together on this bridge.”

Before they left Rivervale, Lisa and Chris and secured their wedding date and were already looking forward to the treats to come:

“When we left that day, the venue felt magical and the array of choices of what food you could have was just mouth-watering and we knew this would be a great place for us and our guests.”

Details and decorations

Lisa and Chris chose a colour palette full of oranges, greys and dark blues to reflect their autumn wedding date and to complement the venue. The season, and the couple’s love of travel, inspired lots of the details and decorations:

“We wanted an autumnal feel to our day as this is our favourite time of year so we worked with lots of pumpkins and dry leaves. The venue is so naturally stunning that we didn’t need that much decoration but I loved the pumpkins with flowers that lined and aisles and these were then used for our table centrepieces in the Dining Barn.”

To bring in their passion for travel, the couple named their tables after destinations they’d visited together and the top table was named Bali, their glamorous honeymoon location. A suitcase doubled as a card box and Lisa and Chris also laid out little wooden hearts on their tables which guests also took home as mementos of the day.

Autumnal wedding style

Lisa wore a truly sensational gown by Sincerity and even this worked perfectly with the autumnal theme:

“My dress was a beautiful lace A-line design with an open, illusion back and gorgeous button detail. The design of the lace almost created a leaf effect, which was just perfect for the image we had of our day.”

Lisa wore an exquisite headband and elegant diamond stud earrings that were a wedding day gift from her parents. One of her bridesmaids also gifted her a personalised bracelet that included the coordinates of Rivervale Barn!

Lisa’s bridesmaids looked fabulous in their long navy blue evening dresses which perfectly offset their eye-catching bouquets.

Chris wore a lovely three-piece suit and looked every inch the dapper chap in grey trousers and a rustic tweed jacket. His socks and tie all matched the orange colour scheme.

A wedding feast to remember

One of Lisa and Chris’s wedding day must-haves was excellent food and their menu really reflected the seasons.

“We were so excited about the menu! We knew that guests would be excited too as it was something rather different to standard wedding food, especially the vegetarian course.”

After a drinks reception with delicious canapes, including fried Somerset brie, crispy duck spring rolls and mini fish and chips, it was time for the wedding breakfast itself. Lisa and Chris’s guests enjoyed a real feast with smoked bacon Scotch egg to start followed by fillet of beef or roast beef tomato with grilled halloumi. A vanilla cheesecake rounded off the meal and guests were even entertained between courses by talented magician, Simon Alexander.

Evening celebrations

Keen to ensure their guests had a great time, the couple prioritised good entertainment at the barn venue. They had a photo booth area with vintage props and a polaroid camera for memorable shots, as well as a live band that kept guests on the dance floor all night.

“During the evening, we had wood fired pizza ovens in the beautiful Courtyard and these went down really well with our guests. Our cake, by Iced Innovations, was a carrot cake with gorgeous cream cheese filling and white chocolate icing. We decorated this with a custom ‘Purr-fect for each other’ cake topper, which symbolised our affection for each other and our love of our cat!”

The soundtrack for the reception was provided by a brilliant DJ who chose the best tunes all evening long.

“Our day ended on a high because when we went back to Cornstore Cottage, there were two glasses of Prosecco and slices of our wedding cake waiting for us. It was so nice to sit back and take in what a wonderful day we’d had over bubbles and cake.”

The important things

“Make sure that you arrange what’s important to you both. This will then shine through to your guests who’ll enjoy the day even more with you. We also had our DJ from Innovents arrange our ceremony music and this was a great idea because it took all the pressure of the bridal party.”
